EVENT 2 in the Support SA Talent Ace Cycles Virtual Racing Series was, as expected ridiculously hard, especially on the final 4km climb of Keith Hill.
With over 150 SA riders on the start line, the group started off super-fast and it was difficult to keep a good position, while saving some energy for the final climb. By the time everyone reached the bottom of the climb, it was a maximum effort to the finish line. Bits and pieces all over the virtual road.
It was current SA National Road Champion, Ryan Gibbons (NTT Pro Cycling) who sprinted to victory on top of the climb. ProTouch Continental’s HB Kruger finished off in a superb 2nd place, while Office Guru U23’s JP Lloyd put in a big effort, to surge clear of his opponents in the final 1km of the climb to finish off in 3rd Place.
In the Ladies A Category, it was the young Kelsey Van Schoor (Team African Pride) who took the top step, with a great ride up Keith Hill. Last weeks’ winner, Lauren Coleman joined her for another podium in 2nd place and Tiffany Keep put in a solid performance to finish off in 3rd Place.
The B Category winners in the men’s race, was the duo of NuPower Ninjas with Aran van Niekerk and Samuel Pienaar taking the first two positions, followed by Ruan Naudé (Bekker Steel) finishing in 3rd place.
This week, we saw Steel & Pipes Junior, Chloe Bateson finish again in 1st place ahead of Nicola Mattheus and new comer Michelle Andrew.
In the Teams A- Category Competition, ProTouch Continental took top honours this week, followed by Office Guru U23 and Absolute Motion. In the Teams B- Category, Nu Power Ninjas increased their lead on Ace Cycles and Albion Wheelers.

A big THANK YOU to everyone once again for all the donations streaming in. Let’s keep the donations coming, by promoting the Phil Liggett Foundation to your friends and family and supporters.
HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED
South African road cyclists can enter a Team or as an Individual on Zwift, with two separate racing categories: “A” Category (4w/Kg or more); and, “B” Category (3,2w/Kg – 3,9w/Kg). Points are awarded for the Top 10 positions in both the Men (All Men – any age) and Women’s (All Women – any age), Men’s Team and Women’s Team categories and, Bonus Points are allocated (Men A + B, Woman A + B) by the commentary team for the rider who has the biggest power numbers on Zwift power for that specific event. This will be decided on by MainTrain coach, Devon Main and commentary team. This participant may not finish in the Top 3 placings of the event.
- Participants need an indoor trainer (smart or power meter), Zwift Membership and a Zwift Power Registration, in order to qualify for official results, which will be published once the Zwift Power results are released. No “weight doping” or Tron Bikes allowed, but banter is welcomed.
- Entry is free to participate but, we encourage riders to make a donation of R200 or more to the Phil Liggett Foundation, and help to South Africa’s talented athletes. The Foundation provides R100 of each donation (to a maximum of R50 000) into a prize purse for the Series, as well as provide an entry to win a VIP Invitation to a special Doolhof Wines Tasting experience, that Phil will be hosting later in the year. Only winners that have made the donation prior to their first event, are eligible for their share of the pool and feature on the leader boards.
